I won, activate the balls!

Aaronryanbw

So let me just begin by saying it was a lot closer than I thought it was going to be.  Our first matchup of Trivial Pursuit 90s' edition was hard fought and at the end of the day it came down to some lucky dice that helping me win.  That dear readers is as humble as this post is going to be, because frankly I won.

When Babe Ruth pointed past the outfield fence and hit his home run yeah it required some luck, but he was confident in his skill and backed up his boast with action.  I was confident in my mastery of the trivia of the 1990s' and I backed it up with a win.

Now I have to admit to a certain amount of hubris.  Nathan came on stronger than I anticipated, leading for much of the game.  I had expected him to do the worst out of everyone since he really has little interest in television or most of the popular cultural facts that make up a good game of Trivial Pursuit.  Nathan got all his pie pieces and so had as good a chance as anyone to win the game.

In fact everyone had their game pieces loaded with pies before I managed to put them out of their misery.  Now granted Ryan had help from his girlfriend Ashley during a part of the game, coincidently the spell of the game that he did best during, but I won't call that cheating though I will point out that if the game had been a Provincial Final Exam he'd have soooo been kicked out.

NathansnappleSpeaking of things we did in the 90s' I had a playlist on my iPod with tons of music from our formative decade, including some good tracks from the Cranberries (whom Aaron apparently has turned on since 1994), U2, the Smashing Pumpkins, Sloan, Oasis, Veruca Salt, Fionna Apple and others.  Ryan made fun of my selection of the Pet Shop Boys, but as anyone who knows Chris Sullivan can attest, they were a vital part of what we were listening to in our Walkmen back in high school.

Aaron supplied us with Snapple and Cool Ranch Doritios and Ryan snuck us beer in his backpack wrapped in t-shirts so his parents wouldn't find them and with the brief exception of the appearance of Ashley there were no girls to be seen.  We were so back in high school it's not even funny (just awesome).

Hey, I only scored one piece of pie while she was there, otherwise it was all me. And don't forget I had the single longest turn of the game all on my own. Next time we're shuffling the deck so we don't keep getting questions from the same year all about stupid Netscape. There will be a rematch. Activate the balls indeed!

Dude Ashley was totally there during your long run. And I didn't even get into your tricking Aaron with that O.J. Simpson question where you read it and said, "It's not O.J. Simpson."

Though granted I doubt he would have gotten it anyway. But let's just say you broke his spirit with that one. ;)

Sup? Not much, just blogging it old school.

Yeah like the old school Powerbook 150 days when I'd keep my blog secret and there was no internet so it was more a diary but that makes me sound girly so it was called "Jeff's Awesome Adventures" and had tales of my crushes on girls.

By girls I mean Michelle Smith and Karen Wilson. By crushes I mean it was obvious to me it was true love.

But the answer wasn't OJ Simpson. His parents didn't get any money from him killing people, at least not directly. Maybe through publicity and stuff but...oh forget it. We're having a damn rematch and then you'll see. And no Pet Shop Boys, gawd!

good game, gentlemen. I wish I had beaten you all. I am almost inclined to start watching television just to give you all a sound thrashing. I realized lying in bed last night that I've probably seen Edison Twins just as many times as I've seen any of the shows that were so formative for my peers. I don't know if I'm even a peer at this point.

So I realise that I wasn't in high school with you all and I am sure that the sneaking in of canned goods and licorice whips was thrilling, I feel the need to make some comments about the validity of the Pet Shop Boys' music here. Jeff, didn't you graduate somewhere at the tail end of the '90s? I can see how your playing music from Bilingual or Nightlife but I just don't see anyone singing along to those ones. I find it more likely that the chosen songs would lie along the lines of "It's a sin," "West End Girls" "What have I done to deserve this?" (a personal favorite), or even the remix of Willie Nelson's "Always on my mind." The fact is that those songs all came out on Greatest Hits albums by 1991 and are in fact songs from the '80s. Can I have a pie piece?

Sweet, if this is a way to discredit the Pet Shop Boys making any sort of appearance at the next 90's night I'm all for it! And while we're on it, you know far too much about the Pet Shop boys.
